Tai - Solarised

An attempt to reach the past.

Sometimes a photograph isn’t about the subject, but more so about the photographer instead. Whether it is a portrait, landscape or an inanimate object, the photographer ultimately gets to decide what emotions to project, what to show and what to tell. During the course of post-production, the photographer subconsciously narrates a whole story based on his past experiences and his principals of what the photograph should be about. As a result, the final photograph becomes a projection of the photographer himself.

“Why don’t you look for a better looking place to shoot instead of this slump?“ - Bystander

Some places stay the same no matter how much time has passed. The world says “New, New New!“ and this place says “no“, never changing its character.

Disassembl Memory (Version Y)

This project was inspired by Chen Fangbin’s “Disassembl Memory“. I was deeply connected to his work after seeing it on Sony’s 2020 World Photography Awards and I just knew I had to do one of my own.

Tamiya’s Mini 4WDs played a significant part of my childhood. For most people, they were just toys, but mine was a companion. Sonic and I shared many precious memories together racing other kids around the block, strategising, modifying and learning to become better racers. When I migrated to Australia, Sonic was left behind and locked away for me to revisit one day. When I finally retrieved him after 7-8 years, all that I could feel was a sense of pride in what we’ve done together. I am grateful for Sonic to be apart of my life and I documented these parts in honour of those memory.
